Hello GOYA parents!
I hope this message finds you safe and healthy. Thank you to all of you that donated clothing and/or toys for the I CHOOSE LOVE event. The amount of items donated was so impressive and reflected the generosity of our community. Also, thank you to the GOYANs that were at the church to help receive and organize the donations for the I CHOOSE LOVE organization and Portland Fire Department.
Multnomah county (along with 28 other counties) are still categorized in the Extreme Risk level for COVID-19. The CDC is recommending that non-essential gatherings be postponed and people should gather with members of their own households during the holiday season. Please review this link for the CDC recommendations:https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/daily-life-coping/holidays.html. Although there are guidelines that accommodate faith gatherings, it is extremely difficult to enforce the strict restrictions. Our kids love to see each other, and they are a great group of kind and respectful teenagers. They have been really consistent with wearing their masks and sanitizing their hands. However, it is not reasonable to expect them to keep 6 feet of distance between them. The church leadership and I feel that it would be wise to postpone all youth gatherings until after the holidays. We can regroup and reassess in the new year to determine how to move forward. Our top priority is to keep everyone safe!
There is another community project everyone can still participate in. The GOYANs are partnering with the Philoptochos to meet the needs of the Davis Elementary School community. This is a project that can be accomplished without gathering. More details are to come and I will share them as soon as I can.
These are very difficult days. The wellbeing of our GOYANs are continually on our hearts! As we approach the Nativity of our Christ, I pray that God will be with each and every one of us. May He grant us His peace and grace as we navigate these rough waters. I look forward to the day we can all be together again!
